Vanilla Apple Cobbler

It’s apple season and we’re blessed with an overflowing apple tree.  I made this as a treat for us today and wanted to share the recipe.

Vanilla Apple Cobbler

Vanilla Apple Cobber

Preheat oven to 375.

Apple Layer

  • 4 Cups peeled, cored, sliced Apples
  • 1/4 Cup Brown Sugar (loosely packed)
  • 1 Tablespoon Lemon Juice
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 Vanilla Bean, keeping the scraped insides only

Mix everything together and spread onto the bottom of a casserole dish.

Cobbler Layer

  • 1 Cup Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1/4 Cup Sugar
  • 1/4 Cup Butter, melted
  • 1/3 Cup Milk
  • 1 Egg

Sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and baking soda.  Whisk together the egg, milk, and melted butter.  Add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients.  Mix well, the batter will be stiff.  Spread the batter on top of the apples.

Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.  The cobbler will be brown and set when done, the apples will be bubbling up around the edges.

Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.  Enjoy!

Apple desserts always make me drool, but the husband always wants apple crisp in an “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” kind of way. I can’t imagine he would turn up his nose at this, though, as it look delicious.

What kind of apples did you use? The cobbler doesn’t have a ton of sugar, so a tart apple might not be necessary?

I have no idea what kind of apple tree I have. The apples are, however; slightly tart. I think any baking apple variety would work great.

We’re huge apple crisp fans, too. Sometimes, however; I want something just a bit different but not as fussy as pie crust.
