“The two ideas, justice and vocation, are inseparable…. It is by way of the principle and practice of vocation that sanctity and reverence enter into the human economy. It was thus possible for traditional cultures to conceive that “to work is to pray.” ~ Wendell Berry
Over the weekend, we did our versions of work as prayer, work that included making use of all those bones in the freezer. I don’t always believe that all our work is of spiritual or even prayerful importance, but I do rather like the idea of trying to make it so. These are thoughts of my simple life, a life in which I do hope my work serves a just purpose in the world and in my local economy.
What kind of prayers are you living through your work?
