Yesterday I did a guest post over at Indie Fixx. You can find the recipe for these yummy Squash and Chocolate Swirled Cupcakes with Orange Cream Cheese Frosting & Candied Pecans over there.
I have a number of books on hold at the library, many are checked out to other folks at the moment and I find myself looking for something new. I’d love to know what you’re reading now and/or one of your favorite books of all time. I’m taking some vacation time next week and would love to spend some of that time with my nose firmly planted in a book.

Those cupcakes look amazing. I’ve been reading fiction lately. I just read The Help, for my book club and really enjoyed it. For me it was a very fast read, very engaging. I also just reread Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close which is also great but completely different. I’m always unsure about recommending fiction because everyone likes different things, but there you go.
If you haven’t already read the Hunger Games series, run don’t walk to pick it up! Captivating! It has a strange premis and is in the YA section but trust me, good books.
I’m currently reading Agatha Christie’s autobiography–quite interesting, though a slow read because it’s huge and very detailed. If you like her mysteries and want to know more about her, I’d recommend it. I’m also in the middle of The Tyranny of E-mail.
Currently in my to-read stack from the library I have a few novels–Cricket McRae’s second homecrafting mystery (Heaven Preserve Us), Saving CeeCee Honeycutt, and My Name is Mary Sutter. The last two are totally new to me, so I don’t have much to say yet, the first should be a fun read if it’s anything like her first book (Lye in Wait).
I’ll be checking back here–I’m always looking for new things to read, so I’ll be interested to see what others recommend.
I know this is off topic, but I got my first Stocking Stuffer Swap Item last night and I just love, love, love it. 2 Snack bags perfect for my daughters stockings! Thanks for hosting this event. GreenTween and I decided last night what we are making and I am so excited.
Favorite book of all time– The Girls: A Novel by Lori Lansens.
A nonfiction memoir written by conjoined twins. Beautifully written, fantastic characters, a heartbreaking story line. Lansens has reflected greatly on life and it comes out in her writing. Hope you enjoy your time off!
Whoops – make that ficiton
Some of my all-time favorites: “The Poisonwood Bible” by Barbara Kingsolver; “Life if Pi” by Yann Martel; “The Irresistible Revolution: Living as an Ordinary Radical” by Shane Claiborne; “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho; “Practical Magic” by Alice Hoffman; “The Center of Everything” by Laura Moriarty…oh, I should stop.
My most recent favorite reads include “Tattoos on the Heart” by Father Gregory Boyle and “No Impact Man” by Colin Beavan.
I just love British mysteries and Patricia Cornwell who has a new book coming out Nov. 30th . All time favourites have to be the Bronte Sisters Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights .
I noticed that someone mentioned Agatha Christie in the comments. Any mystery by the great lady herself would make wonderful escape reading. Have you read any mysteries by Dorothy Sayers? I would recommend all her Lord Peter Wimsey novels. Also, you can’t go wrong with an Elizabeth Goudge book.
I read mostly nonfiction nowadays, but I do like fiction. I would like to recommend “Life is a Verb” by Patti Digh. I love that book. She recently got two more books published that I want to read, but I will probably have to wait now until after the Holidays to read them. One is “Four Word Self Help” and the other is “Creative is a Verb.”
