A good friend cleaned out her fabric stash and passed the stuff she didn’t want on to me including this red plaid. I didn’t know what to do with it for the longest time but as I was putting together a care package for some farming friends I thought of that fabric and decided to make them some garden aprons out of it. The aprons turned out quite nicely and I decided to use the fabric up completely on garden aprons and a few tote bags.
As I was making these, I decided to use them for a small random act of kindness project. I’ll be mailing some off to friends and sharing some with charities in the coming weeks. It seemed like a great way to use up some gifted fabric and burn off a little creative energy at the same time. Showering the end result with others, well that’s just a bonus.
What creative projects are you working on? Any random acts of kindness planned that you care to share to inspire the rest of us?

I’m currently crocheting a hat for myself since it’s so cold and windy here. I also just recovered some pretty sad looking pillows and made a blanket for my dog. I’m still deciding what to work on next. I’d love to learn how to quilt.
I don’t have any random acts of kindness planned just yet but it’s something for me to ponder.
I know the recipients of the aprons and totes will love them!
Do your garden aprons differ from kitchen aprons?
The garden aprons are half aprons but folded up so that there are pockets the entire way across. Think of them as a cross between kitchen aprons and tool belts. There’s an old photo of one here : http://www.flickr.com/photos/katiecakes/222451870/ with stuff in the pockets so that you can see what I mean.
