I do enjoy sending real mail and I do a good bit of it but recently the urge to do more has been with me. Oh, I love the immediacy of email and Facebook comments but there’s nothing like getting a real card or letter in the mail. I know it makes me happy and I believe it makes most other folks smile, too.
In thinking about this love of snail mail over the weekend, I made a new personal goal. That goal is to make sure every time I mail an “official” piece of mail (bills, contracts, etc.), I’m going to make sure I include at least one piece of fun mail, a bit of my heart to someone I love. I started this morning and you know what I think this is going to be good for me and hopefully for the folks for whom I have mailing addresses.

I love this~ for awhile, my daughter and I were writing each other notes occasionally, just because. I’ve kept the ones she sent me. They’re precious. I have a box of letters I found when my mom passed away. She had kept every letter my brother and I ever wrote her.
I just started sending post cards to some friends that I normally correspond with through email. I’m not sure if I’ll here back from everyone that way, but it is fun.
I love this post. There is something so very special about receiving a letter in the mail, especially if it is handwritten. It seems even more special in the digital age, because it means someone took the time out of his/her busy schedule to make or strengthen a personal connection. I have a few friends that I correspond with somewhat irregularly via snail mail, but you’ve inspired me to write some letters this evening. Thanks so much, Kathie!
Fun mail really is great. My sister and I are sort of pen pals (it’s a bit sporadic), and it’s always lovely to get something fun and personal mixed in with the bills and flyers. My mom and sister, and some other family members, sometimes send letters or postcards to my 3yo daughter, and she *loves* it–it makes her feel so special to get mail of her very own. I remember feeling the same when I was a kid…and this was before the days of the internet, so people wrote letters more. One of my aunts and I corresponded pretty regularly, just for fun.
Maybe I’ll dig out the address book and send some fun mail this week–thanks for the inspiration!
Writing a letter is a lost art. I think I will find mine an begin using the regular post. =) Thanks Kathy!
