Jeff and I don’t do much for one another at Christmas. We’re not big on spending lots of money on gifts and frankly we have simple wants and needs. We often give each other very practical gifts, many years we’ve exchanged new slippers. This year was no exception but make no mistake those practical gifts fill our hearts.
In my desire to give him a practical, useful gift, I knitted him a hat. I’ve knitted him hats in the past but I noticed that most didn’t fit him well. They were hats from my beginning knitter days and well full of mistakes. This year, I wanted to knit him something truly nice and warm.
He loves it. I spent a few months working on it secretly. Many lunch breaks were spent doing just a few rows, nights that he worked found me sitting in the easy chair purling by lamp light. Seeing him wear it as he shovels the driveway or on our morning walks just makes me happy and knowing that he’s happy and warm in it well that just fills my soul.
While we had some work done on the house last week, I decided to knit myself a hat too. I haven’t knitted something specifically for myself in quite a while and I’m glad I broke that dry spell with something this pretty and warm.
The hat patterns came from the Purl Bee, specifically the Thank You Hats. Jeff’s hat was the big rib hat done exactly as the pattern states, the yarn coloring did make it quite nice, I think. My hat was the simple rib, I simply changed yarns after I finished the ribbing for different coloring, I didn’t add the tassel, either, I’m not a tassel girl.
What creative projects have you been working on?

A scarf for Himself, a lace shawl for my friend Heather, and of course…books! Now I may need to add hats to the list; I like that pattern.
The hats turned out really nice. I’ve been working on an afghan for us and some Christmas presents for next year.
Last night I began working on a pair of boot liners which a friend custom ordered from me. I’ll post details on my blog when they are completed.
