Can I tell you a secret? I think my kitchen is a magical place. Honestly, sometimes I believe I could solve all the worlds problems if I could just get people to sit down at my kitchen table and let me talk to them over a plate of homemade cookies and a cup of coffee. Oh, I know it’s a completely pollyanna view of the world and unrealistic at that – still sometimes I can’t help but wonder about the magic that is a kitchen full of love and hope. Don’t get me wrong, I’m just enough of a cynic most days to see the flaws in my plan and in humans in general, but a girl can dream can’t she?
While I might not be solving all the world’s problems in my kitchen, there is still plenty of power and magic happening. Recently Jeff and I decided to start teaching classes out of our home and kitchen. We’re so excited about this and the first one went really well. I can’t wait to do more. World leaders might not sit down at my kitchen table and resolve the issues that plague us, but these classes do mean that I can empower people to preserve their own food, cook from scratch, garden, get creative and change their lives with the work of their own hands. When I think about it that way, I think that’s even be better than those lofty world leader goals I mentioned above.

I agree! The kitchen is definitely a magical spot in our home. Between the cooking, eating, and conversation, we have more beautiful memories there than in any other room in the house.
I believe the act of cooking is spiritual. Sharing it with others – the art of cooking, the food itself – approaches the divine.
