These days of summer are so very fleeting and if one isn’t careful they can quickly pass by without much notice. For those of us that garden and practice food preservation methods, the summer seems to be full of planting, weeding, harvesting, weeding, watering, harvesting, eating, preserving, repeat. All those chores keep us focused on chores and sometimes it can be easy to forget to enjoy the warm sunshine and long days.
Jeff and I spent some time in the garden yesterday morning. The cats joined us, they always do. Afterwards we spent some serious time drinking water and talking on the porch. Again, the cats joined us, they usually do.
Later we took a drive. We haven’t done that in a long time but it was worth it. A drive through the mountains, taking in the scenery, holding hands, while talking about nothing was just what we needed to be reminded that these days are fleeting. Yes the chores need to be done. Yes, we enjoy the garden and food preservation work. Still, time to enjoy this beautiful place we call home in each of its amazing seasons is something for which time must be made.
