So often the talk surrounding voluntary simplicity is about cooking from scratch or gardening or frugality and while I agree that all of that is important to my version of simple living, it’s a small part. For me simple living is all about enjoying life as it comes in each and every moment.
Over the weekend Jeff and I enjoyed our simple life by sitting on the porch quite a bit just talking and delighting in each others company. The cats hung out with us most of the time as did numerous bees, bumble bees, mosquitoes, and butterflies as they checked us and the potted plants out.
This is why we chose a simple living path. These quiet moments of listening to the birds chirp or watching the mama deer and her fawn walk down the street in the early morning hours, these are the moments that reinforce to us that this is living, that this is the right journey for us. There are plenty of moments of feeling overwhelmed or busy and in the those moments the quiet ones get lost. Reconnecting to the simple, quiet moments together on the porch in early July, yeah that’s just the journey I want to be on.
What are simple moments are you enjoying?

Two weeks ago this past Sun. a fierce storm, possibly a mini tornado hit our area. Part of our neighbor’s roof over was blown off and the electricity went off. My husband and I found each other in the darkness when we heard a loud boom outside as the storm raged, we met in the middle of the living room floor and embraced. It was scary but also very telling about what’s really important in life – the people we love. That was such a moment of importance to me.
