The worms will be eating well for the next few days, which also means Jeff and I are eating well:
- I cooked 2 large pumpkins. Freezing 10 pints of pumpkin puree (some of which will be turned into pumpkin butter, eventually) and feeding the skins to the worms.
- I made beet feta soup and fed all the skins to the worms. The recipe was from: The River Cottage Cookbook
by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and it was awesome! The entire book is awesome, but this recipe was a combination I don’t know that I would have thought of on my own.
- I made chicken (4 Quarts) & beef stock (2 Quarts), feeding some onion and carrot peels to the worms.
I cleaned my sewing room and I’m so pleased with the changes. I did so in a very slow progression, taking lots of time for reflection and memories of my pappap. I went about it much differently than I would have normally and I think because of that I got better results. I wish I had taken a before photo to share with you all.

Doing Not Thinking Challenge Update: Well, I’m happy to report that I did it! I mailed off a query letter and sample pages to my first publisher on Thursday, October 30th! Honestly, I don’t know if I would have gotten it done without making this challenge so public. I was/am afraid of rejection of course, but nothing ventured, nothing gained, and I have a list of publishers to approach should I get rejected by this one. Please check the links on the Doing Not Thinking Page to see how the participants are doing. You all have been such a source of inspiration and encouragement, thank you.
Two Frog Home Blogiversary Celebration: To celebrate my own year of writing here at Two Frog Home, I want to do a series of small giveaways. Today’s giveaway will be:

A lunch tote bag & flatware roll, made by me out of some great vintage fabric. The bag measures 11″ X 12″. Also included is a flatware roll made of the same fabric. The roll includes 4 pockets perfect for storing a napkin, fork, knife, and spoon. To enter to win this set, you must comment on this post by 5PM, Mountain Standard Time, tomorrow (that’s 11/4/08).

Good for you, jumping out there and seeing what is in store for your writing. The sewing room looks great! What a great giveaway. Count me in.
I am so sorry about the loss of your Pappap.
Your sewing area looks great. Congrats on contacting a publisher. Wishing you luck on that endeavor.
Your sewing room looks fantastic! I would love to have a spare room for sewing. =)
Congrats on sending your samples to the publisher! Post as soon as you hear back.
Would you enter me into your giveaway?
Thanks!
Oh, and I meant to ask; I had read somewhere about not giving worms onion peelings or garlic so I have not. Your worms are ok with these items?
Hey Kathie, Your sewing room looks great! I think your photos have inspired me to go home and clean mine today:) My sewing room could use a good neatening up, I can’t find anything!
I didn’t get to visit at all this weekend, so I’m late to offer my condolences and a hug.
Conrats on the query letter & samples btw. I’m sending this quote, but please, please do not think I’m being pessimistic… It’s from Saul Bellow and the best thing to keep in mind as a writer.
I discovered that rejections are not altogether a bad thing. They teach a writer to rely on his own judgment and to say in his heart of hearts, “To hell with you.”
So no matter the outcome, let’s say “To hell with you (the critic).” and toast your eventual successes.
Congrats on contacting a publisher–that’s a huge step. Now comes the long, long wait. I wish you all sorts of good publishing luck.
The sewing room looks awesome. We’d meant to get to mine this weekend, but life, as it often does, got in the way. I’ll have to look at your pictures to inspire me because mine’s more a “clutter depot” at the moment.
Annette – I’ve always given my worms onion and garlic peels with no worries. I am careful with citrus but otherwise anything from the plant world is game in my bin…
Meadowlark – Thank you for that quote, in the end I will do my best to be true to the original idea and do what’s in my heart (like I always do).
Safira – I do wish I had taken a before photo to share, because my room was “clutter depot” too before the massive clean.
Ooo, so pretty! Enter me!
And congratulations on the submission. Do not let fear immobilize you!
Very organized. Sign me up too, that’s pretty!
i’ve got my fingers crossed about the book (makes it even harder for me to type!)
I wish my sewing room looked as good as yours does. Good luck on your book!
Sooo…. Happy to hear you got that letter in the mail , stay positive and don’t give up.
Your sewing room looks wonderful. I plan to do more cleaning and decluttering in my art/craft room tomorrow , I did get the closet in there cleaned last week.
Would love a chance to win your lunch bag , it’s so colorful.
~ Many Blessings ~

Hi Kathie, I’ve been following along with your challenge and am glad you sent out your first query letter! It’s hard to put yourself out there like that but in the end you can’t win if you don’t play.
Kathie, the sewing room looks great. congratulations on getting the query out…let’s see what happens! Nothing ventured, nothing gained
Can’t wait to see who’ll grab hold of your idea!
Awesome job all the way around!
Your sewing room is a room I dream of having one day. Looks perfect to me. I’m really excited for you on your book, I will keep my fingers crossed for you.
