An Unusual Winter

There isn’t much snow here in northwest Montana.  It’s been unusually sunny and bright too, this winter.  I’m not complaining about the sunshine but the lack of snow is a little disconcerting.  Still instead of worrying to much about something I can’t control, I choose to enjoy it.  We take walks around the yard, investigating the remaining bits of apples the birds are picking apart.  The cats follow, although Meggy doesn’t really care for walking in the snow much, she stops often to lift and shake her paws.

The snow we do get seems to melt and run from the roof in the matter of minutes, though it’s more like hours.

Snow Melt

I can’t complain really, we spend so much of our time inside the home this time of year that it is always nice to get outside and see what’s happening on the grounds too.

How are you enjoying home today, whether indoors or out?

We’ve been getting an occasional inch of snow here and there, but not much at all. I’m missing the coziness of a winter snow storm, but the weather has been more conducive to getting outside.

We’ve had another unusually dry and mild winter although some of the effects are tempered as always by our proximity to the Pacific Ocean.

Yesterday we ambled up the Ventura River ‘rail-trail’, an old railway path turned into a walking/biking/equestrian trail. Sadly, the river was almost completely dry but we enjoyed the 59 degree sunny weather and identified several native CA plants growing on the steep hillsides.

Laundry, stories with my little girl, and trying to get myself a little better organized in the hopes of streamlining/simplifying things. And in the evenings I’ve been doing some knitting for myself and for our home, rather than for gifts–I’m loving seeing handmade things here and there being used in our daily life!
