A Road Trip :: Eureka, Montana

The weather on Saturday morning was snowy, grey, and cold meaning we couldn’t do some of the outside jobs we had planned.  As we were puttering around I had the urge to go to Eureka, Montana.  Eureka is about 60 miles from us and a beautiful drive.  Eureka also has some fun stores including a truly great thrift store.

Cafe Jax

After we hit the thrift store, we stopped for lunch at Cafe Jax.  Lunch was fabulous.  Jeff had the French Dip Special, which he said was, “the best, ever.”  I had The Patrooska salad and it was yummy and huge.  I had leftovers for Sunday’s lunch, too.  Our meals were truly incredible, as they always are when made from scratch and served by sweet waitstaff.

Fortine Mercantile

On the way home, we stopped in Fortine just because we had time and couldn’t think of a reason why not.  Fortine is super small town where the old mercantile was turned into an antique store.  We stopped to look at the antiques and peruse the old building.

The little road trip done on whim, was exactly what we needed to rejuvenate ourselves.  We had a blast, just the two of us doing nothing fancy but still enjoying a simple life and day together.  In the end, this is exactly the kind of simple life we want to live.  A simple life in which we work hard a good bit of the time, but in which we also take the time to enjoy each other and this beautiful state we call home.

How are you enjoying your simple life these days?

I’m pretty sure we camped in the town park in Eureka when were on our cross country bike trip four years ago. We woke up to sprinklers watering the grass and our tent. I don’t know if we’ll get to bike through Montana again, but I definitely hope we get to visit and see more of that beautiful state.

It’s funny to see how nice and colorful our business signs are. Living here, I never noticed it, until I saw your great pictures. Nice post!
