Dinner & A Magazine

I’m not very good at relaxing. I tend to push myself alot and I always feel like there’s more to do. Its something I’m always trying to balance out. In yesterday’s mail my copy of Cook’s Illustrated arrived and I decided it was time to relax. We had a dinner of homegrown and frozen snow peas with some other veggies and brown rice, which I enjoyed while paging through the new issue.
How blessed am I that I’ve had several family members give me a continuing subscription to what has turned out to be my favorite magazine?
What are you doing to relax these days?

In the evening I can most often be found in my favorite chair with a book or a crossword puzzle. I enjoy sewing by hand but don’t have anything going right now so reading is usually it for me.
I too enjoy doing crossword puzzles to unwind in the evenings. It is just the right balance between being mentally engaging and calming at the same time. Another one is… coloring. Yes, I draw on old newspapers or the back-side of paper used to print off the computer with crayons. Just letting my mind wander, play with the colors, and draw a purple tree if I feel like it is somehow soothing.
I have only read 2 or 3 issues, but that is also my favorite magazine. I often wish for it, but it is never to be.
I relax by walking outside and looking around at all the animals, checking for eggs, scratching the pigs.
i have been debating a cooks illustrated subscription for awhile, funny i just had a magazine post! i am framing some of the back covers for the kitchen. they are always so gorgeous.
your meal looks warm and comforting and healthy, and perfect!
I *was* trying to learn embroidery, but that proved too frustrating to be relaxing so for the moment I am working my way through a stack of library books. Next up is May Sarton’s Journal of a Solitude.
That looks ultra healthy and delicious Kathie. I perfect meal for this time of year in my opinion when we’re moving less and exercising less.
This might seem funny…but I’d have to say that I’m using running to relax most evenings. Its nice to get off work and have that to look forward to as a means to relieve any built up tension from the day. Its also 30 mins when I know I can be alone with my thoughts regardless of who else is running alongside me. Plus at the end of it all I get to jump in the nice hot shower, which is the icing on the relaxation cake!
Your dinner looks so delicious! I read this weekend to relax – I have a huge stack of library books.
