A Trio Of Enjoyable Moments
There’s just so much to enjoy right now. For starters, Did you see that moon last night? My goodness, I’m loving that full bright moon as it creeps over the snow-capped mountains. And in the mornings, the way it sits seemingly sits on our fence in the early morning.
I’m enjoying the small bits of holiday decorations throughout our home, the family heirlooms, new treasures from friends and family, and the bits that are just uniquely us. None of it would land us in a spread of Better Homes and Gardens, but all of it brings us simple joy.

As much as I love gardening, I’m enjoying the rest of winter too. I am, however; already in planning mode for 2010. Seed Catalogs have been arriving and they taunt me with all their photos and variety descriptions. It’s all so lovely, inspiring, and tempting. For now, I’ll lose myself in their pages as the garden and pots are covered in snow.

What moments are you enjoying right now?

We put our tree up earlier than usual this year and in the early morning when I’m the only one awake I turn a Christmas C.D. on low, sit in my favorite chair and look at the lit tree. I also have a small collection of favorite books I read every year to get in the spirit of things. My favorite is the book Snow by Calvin Miller. I read it on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I also read the Bible’s account of the Christmas story each day leading to Christmas.
We will wait a couple of weeks to decorate for Christmas. We are, however, following some winter traditions. We are cutting paper snowflakes for our window, rolling pinecones in peanut butter and bird seed for the trees outside and making origami birds. We will be making cranberry and popcorn garland for our hawthorn tree for the birds as well.
I am enjoying watching my wee one enjoy looking at books on his own.
I am enjoying the relaxed approach we are taking to the holiday season this year. It is mostly homemade and concentrated on celebration and tradition instead of mass consumerism.
I agree on the moon- the last two nights have been very clear here, and the moon has been big and bright and gorgeous.
I’ve pulled out a few things, but major holiday decorating hasn’t happened at our house yet. I did turn the radio to the Christmas station to try to get in the mood.
Down here in TX we just had our first really ‘cold’ spell with frost, freeze to follow tonight. So of course, all the plants came in last night. I’m feeling more festive, and look forward to going through my special treasures for the Christmas season:)
No frost or ice here. Just more sunshine. I’m enjoying that!
No decorations yet here either. That’s on the schedule for the weekend.
Writing our Christmas letter–that’s what I’m doing now.
