I know I’ve mentioned this a time or two before, but it’s worth repeating: I love getting and sending actual mail and care pacakages. I just love sticking a card in the mail or finding a little something to put in a care package for a loved one. I love feeling that sense of connection I get by sending something to someone who might be far away and hopefully bringing a little unexpected surprise and smile to their face.
Lately, I’ve been blessed with the sending and receiving of more mail love than usual. Several months ago I offered to send seeds collected from my garden to folks I knew on flickr and I got some unexpected and unrequired goodies in return. Riana from These Days in French Life, sent me a wonderful care package full of such love and goodness:
Recently I sent her a copy of Little House in the Big Woods for her daughter and was pleased to read that they’re reading it already!
Stacy over at Little Blue Hen posted the contents of her package from me. This was a giveaway celebrating 2 years of Two Frog Home. I had such fun putting it all together and knowing that she enjoyed it, makes it all that much better.
I also finished a quilt for a cousin who is expecting her first child in the next month or so. The quilt should be on her doorstep today or tomorrow and I hope it is well received.
As the holiday season approaches, there will be much more in the way of sending cards and packages and I look forward to it all. I picked up some great vintage Christmas cards back in February at a thrift store and I can’t wait to get those sent out to folks on my list.

Receiving mail is always a fun thing and I believe I never sent you a thank you for the sweet card you sent several months ago! *blushes*
Writing and using snail mail is a lost art and I’d like to pick that up again at some point. Right now I try to send my Grandmother a note once every few weeks, just to remind her that I am thinking about her (I am not much of a phone person).

I too love receiving mail and every afternoon when we are back home my husband will go and “get the mail ” , sometimes there is nothing , other times a delightful surprise . We work in a very isolated area for 2 months at a time , very little contact with the outside world and no mail .

I buy my cards in December, after Christmas, and store them for the next year. We send out scores of cards each year. It’s one of my favorite holiday traditions.

I have all the bits for a piece of mail love for you, but I need to take a few minutes, put ‘em together, and walk to the PO. *blush*
I love getting surprises in the mail, but I all too rarely do it for others.

Snail mail really is a lot of fun. My sister and I are “pen pals” now–we used to correspond with older ladies (our grandmother, my husband’s grandma) who are no longer with us, and we missed the fun of getting a letter in the mail, so we write to each other now.
I love the quilt you made. Handmade treasures for babies are so special. Our daughter was given a blanket my husband’s grandma sewed for her (about 3 months before she died) and she also received a couple knitted blankets from family members. We love, use, and treasure each one, and I tell Katie-bug that when she’s wrapped in a blanket made by someone who loves her, it’s like she’s getting a hug from that person.

Yes, I was writing to an older lady in my church who had moved and she died this summer. I miss getting her notes in the mail. I’m working on finding a new snail mail pal..who know, maybe we’ll find each other!
