I’m in planning mode. I imagine many of us here in the states are planning for Thanksgiving. I have to be honest, its just going to be Jeff and I (and the cats) at our Thanksgiving feast this year. We aren’t going anywhere and right now no one is coming to eat with us. Just because its just the two of us, doesn’t mean we won’t be feasting, however. Jeff and I tend to believe that the leftovers are the best part of Thanksgiving, anyway.
I had ordered our local Turkey back in September and it will be ready for pick-up on Monday or Tuesday. Along with the turkey, we’ll have the following slightly varied based upon what we have in the pantry:
- Garlic Mashed Potatoes with Corn
- Stuffing made with our home-baked sourdough
- Roasted Beet & Carrot Salad with Toasted Cumin Vinaigrette
- Apple Pie made with apple pie filling that I had frozen during all the apple madness that was September / October
Leftovers will take various forms, of course, but I’m looking forward to some turkey sandwiches on Honey Wheat Black Bread with some Cranberry Mustard with the leftover beet salad most of all, I think. I’m also thinking some Pumpkin Brioche Cinnamon Rolls just might have to make a breakfast appearance during the holiday weekend.
What about you? Are you planning a feast (large or small)? Have you settled upon a menu?

I wish you lived closer, I’d love for you to come to the giant crazy house for Thanksgiving dinner!
Although, I have to admit…it does sound lovely to share the day with just your hubby.
Enjoy.

We’re going home to the Midwest — our first time going back for the holidays since moving away. My parents and in-laws live about 25 miles apart, so we are probably just combining families at my in-laws’ house to maximize family time with both sides. My mother-in-law tends to freak out a little bit about me being vegetarian, so while I am not cooking the meal, I may prep or bring a dish so she doesn’t have to worry about it.

My husband’s family is gathering on the Saturday before at his mom’s. I baked the turkey and will also take the gravy, cranberry sauce, and iced tea. My husband may have to work on Thurs. but if he does I’ll enjoy some quiet alone time and then we’ll celebrate with a nice little dinner when he gets home. I’m really looking forward to four days off because I always start my Christmas decorating then.

Pierogies, of course. Our mottled heritage of Irish, German & Polish allows us to pick the foods we love the most from each & gorge…at least a few times a year.
I’ve been abstaining from most carbs for the last 8 months, but I’m looking forward to the after dinner stupor on Thanksgiving!

We’re going to my mom’s in Central New York for the first time in ages, having our family’s traditional T-giving dinner of cheese souffle, salad, and perhaps a small steak. (What can I say? My mom was never excited about turkey, but good cheese is another story!)
The next day, pot roast, most of which is coming from MA with us, except for local potatoes and parsnips Mom’s providing.
And then some other time, we’ll have turkey at home.

We are having our traditional Thanksgiving Dinner at my oldest daughter’s here in CDA. She’ll be doing the turkey & fixings; the other daughter w/do garlic mashed ‘taters & her special brussel-sprout-w/-panchetta dish (YUM!); I’ll be doing the crescent rolls, cranberry sauce & pumpkin pies. And of course, there w/be football: the Packers are playing the Lions that day.
