Unburied Treasures & 100 Things #83

100 Things # 83: I am a food preservation addict.  Honestly, I find that canning, dehydrating, freezing, and other methods of preserving summer’s bounty are constantly on my mind and if I go too long without practicing some kind of food preservation fix I get a little cranky.  In reading some of my favorite blogs, I see that I’m not alone in this addiction and they give me lots of inspiration for new worlds to delve into, not to mention laughs:

  • Hanging bean pods for drying and winter soup making, such a great idea and a beautiful decoration, no doubt.
  • A funny and incredibly accurate description of the slippery slope of canning addiction.
  • My jars tend to take on a personality or rather I assign a certain personality to them and because of that certain jars are almost always used for the same purposes year after year.  I’m willing to stray from these personalities as needs arise, however; I am not a Jar Nazi.
  • A weekend spent pickling, seems to me to be the perfect way to spend a weekend.
  • Elderberry preservation could just be the cure for whatever ails you.
Ive spent the last 3 Friday evenings canning pints of beans from our garden. Were up to 32 pints of canned beans for soup and general eating and 7 pints of dilly beans.

http://blogs.denverpost.com/preserved/ -This woman also has a book.

http://creativecanning.blogspot.com/ -This one has more meat and whole-meal canning ideas. I wish the instructions were a bit better.
