The To-Do List

by Kathie on April 16, 2009

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a list maker.  Recently, however; I didn’t feel like my lists were helping me much and I went looking for a new and improved method.  I came up with this simple, but oh so effective chart.

I’m loving this new way of organizing my chores, thoughts, and dreams.  Not everything gets done in a timely manner (or even gets done) but it helps me see the many different types of tasks in a quick glance and that just works for me.  It’s amazing how a very simple change can re-energize me and my spirits.

I have many, many projects on my mind and I’m thinking about starting another round of the “Doing Not Thinking” Challenge.  Would anyone else be interested in joining me?  I know summer is a very busy time for most folks, but I’m thinking it would help me and I get such motivation from many of the regular readers & commenters.

I am a big “list maker” as well. I always have been. My mother used to tease me when I was a teen, because I always had a notepad and pen and was always jotting things down, making plans. My boyfriend thinks that my list-making actually keeps me from getting things done, because I have to make a list before I can do anything. However I’ve tried to explain to him that I HAVE to make a list first. Without a list, I am totally overwhelmed and have no idea where to start!

I am game for another DNT challenge. =) It worked so well for the furnace, think I need another push.

I’d like to get on board for this, but first I have to figure out which goal(s) to work toward, considering it looks like one big one may just have been accomplished. (Pending working out some details, and I’ll post about it as soon as I can!)

Wow! That Kathie, is a fantastic way to organize the to do list! I am going to have to try that. I think it would help me to work through all of those projects I have started and then tucked away too. I have never done your challenge, but I would like to try it if you start another. I could use the accountability of having to post progress! :)

I like your list! I never thought to break it down into categories, but I think that might make it easier to accomplish all the tasks! Hope you don’t mind if I steal your idea!

That is pretty similar to the way I do mine on Facebook’s little “To Do” application.

It really does seem to help sort things out.

I’m a total list maker, too. I usually break my lists up into categories as well, although not on anything as “legit” looking as that! But seeing different categories really helps me. I used to keep my lists in my phone (it has a To Do option) but it doesn’t help if I can’t see it out, so now they are usually on a notepad on the kitchen counter.

I’ll definitely join the challenge. I need to really get myself managing my time better. All else follows that first thing!

I really like this idea, Kathie – mind if I ‘borrow’ it? :) And, as everyone else has said, “Hello, my name is Carla, and I’m a listmaker.”

list maker over here! it helps to keep my brain from shutting down! i like the category idea, i do something similar in my daily to do sheets…focus cleaning, laundry, gardening are on there every day and i fill in what i need to do for those.

it is great to see the list completely marked off!

I’m up for the challenge. I need some motivation right now. I just have to decide on what thing to focus on.

Pretty sure I would be up for the challenge.. It’s coming into winter here and if I felt any more unfocused I would probably fall over.

Kind Regards
Belinda

To everyone who wants to “borrow” the to-do list idea, please steal away. I hope it helps you the way it helped me.

The Doing Not Thinking Challenge – I’ll be posting about it in the coming days – stay tuned!
