Baking as Therapy

by Kathie on March 12, 2009

I’ve had a lot of things on my mind lately between work, silly proposed government bills, our cat, and some wonderful opportunities too.  It’s not that I’m stressed but its all very ”workish”  and sometimes I just need to unwind.  Unwinding for me usually includes baking.  Thankfully, I had a good excuse to do some baking in the form of a birthday gift.

I made some whoopie pies.  The chocolate cookie part includes some mini chocolate chips and the filling is a vanilla frosting.  I rolled the completed whoopie pie in coconut.  To mail them, I wrapped each individually and then stacked them on their sides in the box, like donuts.  I think they made a lovely gift box and I hope the man who receives this box enjoys eating them as much as I enjoyed making them.

Thanks to everyone who’s been sending love our way in regards to Patches, our cat.  I’m happy to say she’s doing better.  I had roasted a turkey over the weekend, as we were carving it she came into the kitchen and let out quite a yowl.  We don’t normally feed her people food, but thought we’d give her a few pieces and see where it went.  She ate a little and went back to sleep.  We’ve been feeding her bits of the turkey each day since and each day she’s eaten a little bit more and yesterday she even ate some of her cat food.  She’s still fairly weak and she’s old, but perhaps things are looking up just a little bit.  There’s a little bit of a spark there that was missing.  We’ve decided to incorporate more meat into her diet and just see where it goes.

I clean or make homemade cards for therapy.

Glad your cat is doing a touch better.

When my Mom’s cat was weak and not eating too well, small bits of turkey is what the vet suggested. Hope it keeps her happy for a while.

OK, I see why someone thought that bill might be a good idea(to make it easier to track down bad lots of something) but either someone’s being incredibly machievallian (or however that’s spelled) or they just plain didn’t think it through.

*makes mental note to add “write your congress-critters” to the to-do list*

I’m sure somewhere along the line the whole peanutbutter scare is what prompted the bill, but as usual, the government has gone into overdrive and overkill with this particular bill.
