selfless

Remember a month ago, I issued the Selfless Activism Challenge.  Well today is the first Tuesday of December and technically report day.  I’ll be creating a page like I did for the Doing Not Thinking Challenge later today.  If you’re participating in the challenge, let me know your name, blog link if you have one, and the cause you’ll be working on.  I’ll include all that information on the Challenge page.

As a reminder, here is the challenge:

Part 1:Pick an issue or two (be careful of picking too many lest you get burnt out and devote little effective time to any one cause), a cause that means something to you (i.e., NAIS, cloned meat, genetically modified seeds, world hunger, AIDS, health care, human rights, global warming, etc., etc., etc.) and do something for that cause every month.  Write to your congressperson, attend local/state meetings & speak up at them, organize rallies, donate money and/or time, write editorials, simply do something on behalf of your cause every single month.

Part 2: Reach out to people who may have been on the other side of you on this election and find common ground.  Agree to disagree, like civilized adults, and work on a common cause that doesn’t care whether you or they voted republican, democrat, or third party.  Lets work to end selfishness, just a bit, in favor of selflessness.

Part 3: Report on your cause and what you did for it that month on the first Tuesday of each month (I did choose that day in honor of election day, but kept it simple by not making it the first Tuesday after the first Monday).

I’ve chosen to get way more active in opposing genetically modified foods and cloned meats.  In the past, I’ve been on the periphery of this movement and feel like time is working against us and I need to get more active and vocal about these important food safety issues.

If you’d like, please feel free to use the banner above for your own blog.  Please note I chose the photo not because I’ve picked an agricultural cause but because I’m hoping that no matter what our chosen cause, we will grow personally and enrich the world around us.

What cause or causes will you be working for in the coming months/years?
