Around Two Frog Home, we’re preparing. Preparing for fall, preparing for winter, preparing for projects, etc. Yesterday we spent around 10 hours preparing for winter:

That’s 5 cords of split wood for heating. We cheat, we use a splitter for the actual splitting (I don’t think even the most experienced wood cutter could split 5 cords in one day by hand, but I could be wrong). It’s really not cheating for us, both Jeff and I have had major surgery on our hands and/or wrists and splitting with a traditional maul just isn’t possible in this kind of quantity if we’d like to continue using our hands. We work together as a team, Jeff lifts the rounds onto the splitter, splits them and throws them into a wheelbarrow. I take the loaded wheelbarrow to the pile and stack it. Back and forth all day long it went. It is, hard work, splitter or no, however; its incredibly satisfying to see all that wood for winter heating.
There are lots of canning and food preservation preparations taking place as well. The next month or two will be full of glass jars, boiling water, and my pressure canner. It’s preparations that I love doing, but love even more when I’m consuming them in the middle of a long Montana winter.
There’s a project in the preparation stage as well. My living life post has gotten a bit of attention from fellow bloggers and friends. I’m humbled that anything I could write would be an inspiration and I got to thinking about taking it a step further. Stay tuned for a Doing not Thinking Challenge, possibly later today, certainly by tomorrow afternoon.

Wow…it’s beautiful!! What a great feeling to have your wood supply put in for the winter. congratulations!! (passing the liniment…lol)
Ah, splitting and stacking firewood…we know all too well. In fact we had just finished doing the same exact thing 2 weeks ago but not 5 cords! Just 2 cords. We’ll have more to do but out winter here in Upstate NY is not as long as Montana.
Thanks for stopping by!
Have a great day!
Oh, I am so up to your challenge. =) Great job on the winter prep. I am always in prep mode – is that a bad thing?
Seeing all that wood piled up for the winter is great and makes me want to change the gas log fire place back into wood burning..I’d like to put in a stove…especially in my studio….oh! the desires of the heart….Nothing like being prepared!…Ginny B.
I’ll play along! I want to loose 5 lbs. No a big goal but it’s a goal I’d like to do before December. Kids are back in school in a few weeks and I have no excuse for not hitting the trails and the gym. I am not a big girl just have a little extra than I like that I’d like to rid. Clothes are a bit snug and I really do not want to go up a size. Count me in!
