Friday Favorites 8/8/08 Edition

by Kathie on August 8, 2008

This week’s favorites in no particular order:

  • I’m not a huge fan of lemonade, I’m more of an unsweetened iced tea gal in the summer, but Strawberry Basil Lemonade, sounds like something I could get addicted too.
  • I love baking birthday cakes for loved ones, it just seems a great way to celebrate them.  I could totally get into celebrating half birthdays and might just steal the idea.
  • Jessica reviewed some gardening books, that I will just have to add my winter reading list (winter because there won’t be time until then.)
  • What will you do if you lose your job?  How will you grow up, how will you care for yourself and your family?  I’m always planning (remember my whole, Living Life lament), but sometimes its good to remember a plan is necessary as long as you can put it into action.
  • Thinking of launching a local food campaign, read this great article with very practical tips for those of us wanting to do a little more for our local growers and producers.

I love baking cakes for loved ones too. Although I’m not a professional , I love creating. I just made a fire truck cake for my 4 year grandson , it’s on my blog , if you would like to see it. I got the basic cake plan off the net , and added my own touches to make it unique. It’s a little lopsided , but full of homemade charm.

Those books that you scored at the library sale , look great. Bet , you’ll enjoy them.

I enjoy reading your blog and the ” Women Not Dabbling In Normal ” blog too. There’s always so much to learn from each other. So happy I found this group of women.

I plan to put your challenge into action too , will probably blog about it Sunday. I need to declutter my home and this challenge , may help me get in gear to do it.

~ Blessings ~

A very timely blog. I too love to buy locally what I have not been able to grow in enough quantities at home. Bath has only just started a ‘farmers market’ though there is more finished product than fresh veggies. Organic vs affordability has always been a tough challenge for me. Hopefully that will change as my gardening skills improve! =)
