This is the quilt from the box of fabric pieces I picked up at a yard sale this summer. It is so far from perfect that I’m having a hard time liking it. I can’t decided if its perfect in its imperfections or just plain ugly. I used all the pieces that the previous owner had sewn together. There were strips of as few as 2 squares to as many as 12 squares already sewn - I put them all together to finish the top. The seams were anything but uniform and the pieces themselves varied in size more often than not. There were no obvious color themes, just random pieces sewn together. There is much more polyester in this quilt than I would ever normally use, most fabrics date easily to the seventies. I just can’t decide if I like it or not. No matter, it is warm and it is finished so it will serve a quilt’s purpose. I am still thinking of donating it to the local senior center’s annual craft show/fundraiser.

I think it’s perfect in its imperfections. I love it! It looks very cozy and would be a great donation for a craft show/fundraiser.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! It’s is so eerily similar to a quilt we have on our bed that my husband’s grandmother made eons ago. It is such a warm quilt, and altho his grandmother is in heaven, we remember her each time we look at the quilt.

It’s just like the one my granny made me- complete with the gaudy polyester squares!
I love it!
I’m sure that whomever wins it at the raffle will love it, too!

Your quilt to reminds me of days past. My husband’s mother was a quilter. I am lucky to have one of her hand pieced quilts from when she was a young woman. She was still quilting in her seventy’s and some of my favorites were just like the quilt you made. They were backed with flannel and my kids just loved them as I did. The fabric you have brings back lots of memories.

I LOVE this quilt! It reminds me very much of the 2 little quilts my Mom and I made for my two daughters (who were born in the 70s!). In fact, I think some of the polyester fabric prints may even be the same. Imagine my surprise when I saw it on your blog! My girls still have their polyester quilts — of course, they will never wear out! Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

I have to echo that I LOVE it too! It reminds me of my childhood in the ’70’s and my paternal relatives quilts they would send home with us after visits int he hills of SW Virginia. I think of them as “Appalachian quilts” because they were truely products of need, not just art, and were beautiful in their homemade feel. I also love the randomness because I am sure each square has a story behind the fabric and it would be lovely to be cuddled under it making up stories behind the squares!!
